Watching the skies with Brad Klein

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Brad Klein reviews the week’s astronomical highlights with Bethlehem’s "Backyard Astronomy Guy," Marty McGuire.

This week they discuss one of the most prominent constellations in the Winter sky.

Orion rises in the southeast after sunset and moves to the west over the course of the night.

An illustration of the constellation Orion

It’s easy to pick out by the three stars that designate Orion’s belt.

This is a so-called "asterism," a recognizable pattern of stars in the night sky.

Follow them from right to left, and they will lead you to Sirius, the "dog star," and a canine companion to Orion.

It’s the brightest star visible in the night sky.
