BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Brad Klein reviews the week’s astronomical highlights with Bethlehem’s "Backyard Astronomy Guy," Marty McGuire.
This week they discuss a possible holiday present. NASA’s "Message in a Bottle" program is an offer to add your name to a silicon chip heading toward Jupiter’s moon, Europa.
“Scientists are trying to determine if there's a vast ocean beneath [the] icy crust of on the surface of Europa,“ McGuire said, "And there could even conceivably be traces of life.”
The Europa Clipper mission is scheduled to launch in October, 2024 and arrive in 2030.
NASA’s ‘Message in a Bottle’ program is free to participate in. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. EST, Dec. 31, 2023.
