The Martin OM Biosphere guitar, which costs $2,299, received the Preferred by Nature Sustainability Framework certification, according to a news release from the company.

NAZARETH, Pa. — A plastic-free guitar made by C.F. Martin & Co. has achieved a sustainability certification for its positive impact on the environment, officials announced Thursday.

  • Nazareth guitar maker achieved a international sustainability certification
  • The guitar is Martin's second plastic-free model
  • It costs $2,299 and features a sea turtle

The Martin OM Biosphere guitar, which costs $2,299, received the Preferred by Nature Sustainability Framework certification, according to a news release from the company. It’s the second plastic-free guitar in production, preceded by Martin’s 00L Earth guitar, which was discontinued.

“Preferred by Nature and Martin share the same vision: ‘To pass on the Earth to coming generations in a good shape, we must urgently invent and adopt more sustainable ways of living, sourcing and trading,’” said Cindy McAllister, Martin’s director of intellectual property, community and government relations.

It is with great pride and excitement that Martin has demonstrated compliance for the OM Biosphere with the Preferred by Nature Sustainability Framework Programme.

“It is with great pride and excitement that Martin has demonstrated compliance for the OM Biosphere with the Preferred by Nature Sustainability Framework Programme,“ she said.

Martin is the first company to achieve the certification in the U.S., and only the second worldwide, officials said.

Preferred by Nature, an international nonprofit focused on land management and business practices that benefit people, nature and the environment, offers certifications to help companies optimize their impact, according to its website. The Sustainability Framework Programme included categories for management and business, people, nature and climate.

The guitar, which features a sea turtle amid an underwater scene, was “designed to show Martin’s support for the preservation and replenishment of coral reefs, which are some of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on earth," officials said.

The guitar will have the Preferred by Nature Hummingbird Seal, “a distinction that was not easily earned and one that the company is quite proud of,” according to the release.

“It's not just a guitar. It's a call to action on climate change,” according to a product description on Martin’s website. “A reminder to preserve our planet for future generations.”
