Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley lost the race for the 16th state senate district seat.

LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. — Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley's campaign for Pennsylvania auditor general is over after he lost in Tuesday night’s Democratic primary.

State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta will look to flip the office in November from incumbent Tim DeFoor, who was nominated by Republicans for a second term, according to the Associated Press.

With about 630,000 votes counted by 10 p.m. Tuesday, Kenyatta led by more than 150,000 after picking up almost 62% of the vote Tuesday, unofficial election results show.

Pinsley answered a call Tuesday night from LehighValleyNews.com but hung up without speaking. A second call seeking comment on the race went to voicemail.

Pinsley was elected as Lehigh County Controller in 2019 after serving a term on the South Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners.

With about 630,000 votes counted by 10 p.m. Tuesday, Kenyatta led by more than 150,000.

He lost bids for state senate in 2018 and 2022.

Pinsley’s auditor general campaign centered on his experience with audits as controller and a business owner.

Kenyatta has served in the state House of Representatives since 2019. He lost in the 2022 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.

Kenyatta said he plans to establish a Bureau of Labor and Worker Protections “and use the power of the office to take on wage theft, employee misclassification, and union busting” if he unseats DeFoor.
