WASHINGTON - Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) is looking forward to Democrat Joe Biden taking over the Oval Office but says the Senate will have its work cut out this week when it will resume the impeachment proceedings for former President Donald Trump.

Trump will face an impeachment trial to determine if he is guilty of inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol building.

“I never thought we’d be dealing with another impeachment proceeding in less than a year, but that’s what fate has imposed on us,” Casey says.

There are important issues that have been neglected by the Trump administration, he says, namely, the raging COVID-19 pandemic, and its impact on the economy.

“We are all suffering from the effects of the virus, some more directly, maybe they lost a loved one or contracted the virus themselves, so, we have to come together in a common purpose to focus on dealing with this virus, but also in dealing with lifting the economy out of this ditch that it’s in,” he says

Casey could not say exactly when this work might begin, though he did say that impeachment proceedings could be completed next week.

“You’re allowed under the rules to have impeachment proceedings on a Saturday,” Casey says, “So I don’t see why it should take more than Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Then, we could be done with it.”
