HARRISBURG, Pa. - President Trump has tried to claim voter fraud in swing states which he won in 2016 but lost to Biden this year. Here in Pennsylvania, his legal team continued to press forward to keep the election from being certified.
Election experts say it’s a tactic to disenfranchise non-white voters.
Trump has taken specific aim in attacking Philadelphia which has a significant Black population.
Trump is painting it as a corrupt city, whose election system cannot be trusted.
Suzanne Almeida is with the government watchdog group Common Cause.
“This president, this former president now, has used Philadelphia as a stand in for Black people for a long time,” she said.
Almeida says election turnout among communities of color was high mainly because of voter mobilization efforts.
So far, most of Trump’s legal challenges have not been successful.
The deadline for Pennsylvania to certify the presidential election was Monday, Nov. 23.
Gov. Wolf and Secretary of State Kathy Bookvar officially announced Pennslyvania's certification for President-elect Joe Biden Tuesday afternoon.
