Please be patient: We most likely won’t know the results of the Nov. 3 election in Pa. and across the country for several days. Find out more about how WLVR News will cover election night and after.
Early voting is already underway in Pennsylvania with less than three weeks to go before Election Day. And as WLVR’s Ben Stemrich reports, community activists held a special event in Allentown yesterday to register new voters and encourage residents to cast their ballots.
Lehigh Valley Stands Up and Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley were set up all day outside the Lehigh County Government Center giving away t-shirts, hoodies, canned goods and even tacos for those who came out.
“We’re trying to create a cultural awareness and a cultural norm around voting, around registering and being able to ask any kind of questions,” said organizer Ashleigh Strange.
Voter Kathy Montes of Allentown brought her mail-in ballot to the county’s 24-hour dropbox, located on site.
“We originally decided to mail it in, and then actually we decided maybe we were going to vote in person. So we went back and forth for a while and just decided to bring it in,” said Montes.
The scene at the government center was lively and positive, with a steady flow of people registering, voting in person, and dropping off ballots, like Allentown voter Kathryn Domyan.
“We are all really, I want to say, excited for this election, and ready to see some things happen in this country. So to have the opportunity to drop off my ballot early, and drop it off in person, it's a privilege, it really is.”
The deadline to register to vote in Pennsylvania is Monday, Oct. 19.
Early, in-person voting goes through Oct. 27.
