EASTON, Pa. — Easton Yoga is bringing "A Night of Ecstatic Music and Kirtan" to their studio on Thursday, with proceeds from ticket sales going to a nonprofit focused on the mindfulness and wellbeing of children.

The big event, which is set to run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 at 524 Northampton Street in Easton, will take attendees on a “soul-stirring journey” with Seán Johnson & the Wild Lotus Band, well known for their ability to weave together ancient mantras and global chants with conscious lyrics, bringing together genres like New Orleans roots, rock, gospel, and world groove.

The crew’s most recent album “Mystery” earned accolades as one of the best releases of the year in Louisiana according to Offbeat Magazine. Their previous release, “Unity,” celebrated the connectedness of the world’s spiritual traditions and reached number one on the iTunes World Music and number three on the Billboard charts.

As per the Hindu American Foundation, "Kirtan is the act of praising and glorifying some form of divinity. While such glorification can be expressed in a variety of ways, including through poetry, drama, dance, or any form of oral recitation, kirtan, in its most well-known form, is the call and response singing of a mantra that usually focuses on Radha, Krishna, Sita, and Rama."

And while the transcendental tunes are reason enough to stop by, it’s the philanthropic element of the event that truly sets it apart.

“We're collaborating by donating $10 of every ticket sold to the Mindful Child Initiative, which works with school-aged children in the Lehigh Valley to bring yoga and meditation programs, mindfulness programs, and the adults who support them across the entire Lehigh Valley,” Easton Yoga owner Alicia Rambo said.

“I think it's become more and more obvious that mindfulness programs really, really help in our school districts, as well as after school programming, to help kids find a healthy way to develop healthy skills to mitigate stress in their lives."

She added that in a post-pandemic world, children, in particular, have experienced plenty of stress returning to school – stress that was piled on top of the normal amount of pressure experienced by students.

“I think it's become more and more obvious that mindfulness programs really, really help in our school districts, as well as after-school programming, to help kids find a healthy way to develop healthy skills to mitigate stress in their lives,” Rambo said.

Rambo has said the evening will be a “heart-expanding experience,” bringing the community together in celebration of unity, peace, and the healing power of music and mantra.

“I think it's an important thing for our entire community to come together,” Rambo said. “It's our first very large event that we've planned post-pandemic, so it's a good way to gather together in song and music, which has always been a way of people together and creating community. And so this just builds on that.”

Tickets for the event are still available, though Rambo advised as of Thursday, about half have already been purchased. If you want to attend, be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible.

Members can get passes in advance for $45, while nonmembers will be charged $50.
