EASTON, Pa. — It’s time to get ready to return to learning, and Easton’s second annual Back to School Rally is here to help get the kids prepped for a new year.

Running from noon to 4 p.m. at Scott Park on Sunday, Easton City Councilman Frank Pintabone’s educational event will include free items, fun, and plenty of opportunities to get acclimated to Easton Area School District.

Pintabone said he is partnering this year with the Heart of a Legend Foundation — the nonprofit operated by the family of former heavyweight boxing champion Larry Holmes.

Officials from the district will available Sunday to talk to kids about the upcoming year and get them up to speed, and the Easton Area High School Marching Band Drum Line will be offering up some fun music to inspire upcoming students.

“It’s not just about giving away things, it’s about rallying and building up their confidence and energy, getting these kids psyched for a good school year,”

Kids can get free bookbags – Pintabone confirmed 418 have been accumulated and packed up – and school supplies, haircuts, and manicures for school-aged girls.

They can also indulge in some free food and iced treats while enjoying music from a live DJ.

Pintabone confirmed Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta will be at the celebration, along with Democratic nominee for attorney general Eugene DePasquale, who Pintabone said “both really support public education, and are always ready to step up when I ask.”

The councilmember launched the event last year, giving away tons of school supplies with the support of numerous local organizations. Pintabone has said he aims to continue the event to provide for all children in Easton, but most importantly, to build up belief in themselves.

“It’s not just about giving away things, it’s about rallying and building up their confidence and energy, getting these kids psyched for a good school year,” Pintabone said at last year’s event.
