EASTON, Pa. - Move over, popcorn and tinsel. There’s a new ornament in town, and it commemorates a local Easton landmark - the historic Mount Vernon Hotel.

For nearly a decade, the Easton Main Street Initiative has been selling ornaments to raise funds for holiday events and programs. They are always based on local Easton landmarks. Previous years include the Northampton Street "Free" Bridge and Cottingham Stadium.

Kim Kmetz, Main Street Manager for EMSI, said in a release they have shipped the ornaments all over the country. “People want a piece of Easton wherever they live.”
The Mount Vernon Hotel was chosen for its rich history. Built in three parts, the front dates back to 1820, the middle to 1850 and the rear to the 1920s. Records find the hotel was in operation continuously from 1855 to 1994 and even became a brothel at certain points.
Now, it is home to the Two Rivers Brewing Company.
The actual building has vintage tin ceilings, original milk glass lighting fixtures and terrazzo floors. There is also a 1929 Zenith Radio Bar, purchased from a Sears Catalog. Lore says the Victorian-era turret was added after a lost bet in the late 1800s.
There are 750 ornaments available for purchase. They have sold out in the past.
The ornaments cost $20 and are available online, with select merchants in Downtown Easton, at information tents at the Easton Farmers’ Market and the Easton Winter Village. They are made in the U.S.
