ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The state Transportation Department plans to replace the bridge over Leibert Creek on Indian Creek Road in Upper Milford Township — a project that will send locals on a detour of more than six miles, officials said.
PennDOT is asking the public for input and questions on the project, which is detailed on its website, until March 16.

It's scheduled to be done over four months in the 2025 construction season.
The proposed 6.4-mile detour would take vehicles to State Route 29, Lower Macungie Road and Brookside Road.
The section of road now handles 2,143 vehicles a day, PennDOT says.
The new bridge is needed because the existing bridge, built in 1973, now has 'structural deficiencies,' PennDOT said in a release.

The existing dual steel pipe arch will be replaced with a precast reinforced box culvert.
The existing road over the bridge will be two 10-foot lanes, as it is now, but shoulders will be widened from 1.5 feet to 2 feet, PennDOT says.
The public input also is an opportunity to comment on the project’s potential effect on cultural resources — a requirement of the National Historic Preservation Act.
