EMMAUS, Pa. - A 16-year-old boy died in a car crash Tuesday afternoon on Cedar Crest Boulevard near Emmaus High School, according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio.
The victim was a passenger in one of the vehicles, according to Buglio. The boy's name was not released and an autopsy was set for Wednesday, he said.
The crash occurred about 2:55 p.m. and remains an active and ongoing investigation involving multiple agencies, Buglio said.
Authorities shut down Cedar Crest Boulevard at North Street, near the high school athletic fields, and it was closed for hours.
In addition to the coroner's office, the Emmaus Police Department, Lehigh County District Attorney's Office and the Lehigh County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
On Tuesday night, officials from Emmaus High School emailed families offering support:
"This afternoon several Emmaus High School students were involved in a two vehicle accident." the email said.
"We recognize that witnessing or hearing about an accident can be a traumatic experience for individuals.
"District counselors and psychologists will be available Wednesday at Emmaus High School to assist students and faculty.
"Families are encouraged to reassure their children that our school community is here to support them if they are struggling with this event," it said.
