EASTON, Pa. — A North Carolina man has been charged with threatening a shooting at Saucon Valley Middle School in response to the school district's allowing an after-school Satan club to meet there.

  • 20-year-old Ceu "Van" Uk, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested in the state Monday
  • He has since been charged with threatening a shooting at the Saucon Valley School District
  • Investigators allege Uk was upset about the after-school Satan club allowed to meet at Saucon Valley Middle School

Ceu “Van” Uk, 20, of Charlotte, was arrested Monday and charged with making terroristic threats, according to a statement from the Northampton County district attorney's office.

The statement said Uk left a voicemail for the Saucon Valley School District on Feb. 21, in which he threatened to “come in there and shoot everybody.”

Investigators say he was upset about the district’s decision to allow an after-school Satan club to use space at Saucon Valley Middle School, which Uk had read about on Facebook.

In response to the threat, the district closed its schools on Feb. 22. It reopened the next day under heightened security.

Uk’s bail was set at $75,000, and he awaits extradition to Pennsylvania.

Northampton County District Attorney's Office release

Amid a growing controversy, the Saucon Valley School District on Friday rescinded approval for an after-school club sponsored by The Satanic Temple.

Superintendent Jaime Vlasaty said she decided to rescind approval for the After School Satan Club to use space at Saucon Valley Middle School.

A flier about the Satan club circulated last week on Facebook in a public group called Hellertown, PA, which has 225 members.

According to the sign-up flier, children who attend club meetings would learn about benevolence and empathy, critical thinking, problem solving, creative expression, personal sovereignty and compassion. Activities include puzzles and games, arts and crafts, and science and community service projects.

The club is open to ages 5-12. Students from other school districts can attend with a signed permission slip, according to the flier.

The club exists in other parts of the country but this is the first one in Pennsylvania, according to the Facebook post.

A spokewoman from the club said Tuesday that it has no response "at this time."
