Document shredding events are coming to Bethlehem

Two shredding events will be held in Bethlehem this summer.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Two shredding events that aim to provide a safe and convenient way for residents to securely dispose of sensitive documents are coming to Bethlehem.

  • Northampton County residents can take advantage of two upcoming Household Document Shredding events
  • Each vehicle will be allowed to bring up to three boxes or bags of documents weighing a maximum of 25 pounds per box or bag
  • Accepted items include financial and legal documents, while materials such as junk mail, magazines, and X-rays will not be accepted

Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure and the county Department of Public Works have announced the upcoming Household Document Shredding events for county residents.
They will be from 10 a.m. to noon June 24 and July 22 at the Department of Human Services building, 2801 Emrick Blvd., Bethlehem.

To ensure an organized and efficient process, document shredding will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each vehicle will be limited to three boxes or bags of documents, with a maximum weight limit of 25 pounds per box or bag.

What can and cannot be shredded

Accepted items for shredding include financial and legal documents such as accounting records, canceled checks, pay stubs, financial statements, investment transactions, legal documents, medical records, tax forms and more.

Staples, paper clips, rubber bands and folders also can be shredded.

Residents are kindly requested not to arrive before the designated 10 a.m. starting time to avoid any traffic congestion or related issues.

However, certain materials not suitable for shredding at the events include junk mail, magazines, catalogs, photographs, negatives and X-rays.

Materials such as ring binders, metal strips, and plastic sheet protectors or coverings will not be accepted and should be removed before arrival.

Residents are requested not to arrive before the designated 10 a.m. start time to avoid any traffic congestion or related issues.

Upon arrival at the event, residents are instructed to remain in their vehicles.

t's advised to have doors or trunks unlocked and the boxed or bagged documents easily accessible to the staff members who will be assisting. That will help streamline the shredding process and ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.
