BASD communications chief is a finalist for national award

Bethlehem Area School District Communications Coordinator Barbara Clymer has been nominated for the inaugural National School Communicator of the Year Award, presented by the National School Public Relations Association.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Barbara Clymer, communications coordinator for the Bethlehem Area School District, is a finalist for the inaugural National School Communicator of the Year Award.

Clymer’s nomination was announced in a school district news release on Monday.

In her 20th year with the superintendent's office and 36th year working with the school district, Clymer is among 27 nominees nationally being recognized for outstanding leadership and contributions in the field of school communications.

The award will be represented at the NSPRA National Seminar July 14-17 in Seattle.

Clymer took on the title of communications coordinator in 2022 but had served before that as a liaison between the public and the superintendent's office.

“We are excited to see Barbara Clymer's exceptional work recognized on a national stage,” said Jack Silva, Bethlehem Area School District superintendent, in a news release.

“Barbara's unwavering dedication to effective communication has been instrumental in promoting collaboration and unity within our school community.”

Clymer is a Lehigh Valley native and graduate of Liberty High School and Northampton Community College.

"Her commitment to fostering transparent and engaging communication channels has significantly contributed to strengthening the ties between the Bethlehem Area School District and its diverse stakeholders," the district's release said.

NSPRA serves more than 2,900 members who work primarily as communication directors in public school districts and education organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

NSPRA provides professional development programming through on-demand learning, an annual national seminar, webinars, online forums and resources.
