BETHLEHEM, Pa - The Downtown Bethlehem Association is rounding up Santa's little helpers, and they need you to make this year's tree-lighting ceremony one of the most magical nights ever.
- The Bethlehem’s Citizen’s Christmas City Committee is looking for volunteers and donations to support the city’s annual tree-lighting ceremony
- Date: Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at 5:00 pm
- Location: Payrow Plaza/City Hall, 10 E. Church Street, Bethlehem, PA
Volunteers are needed to help set up and decorate, hand out treats and even dress up as Santa's elves.
The event will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, at Payrow Plaza.
“We can’t wait to see the community come together to deck the halls,” said Kelly Smith, the Director of the Downtown Bethlehem Association, in a news release.
The theme of this year's holiday trellis, which will be unveiled at the ceremony, is "celebrating life’s milestones." There will also be hot chocolate, snacks, a “Not-So-Silent-Night” Christmas concert, and of course, a chance to meet Santa.
This tradition finds its origins in a 1937 nationwide campaign to make Bethlehem, PA ‘the Christmas City.' During this time, 185,000 pieces of mail were sent in support from all over the country to the Bethlehem Post Office.
