BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bethlehem Area School District is giving students and parents COVID-19 vaccines ahead of the new school year. The vaccine clinics are a way to bring children up to speed on their shots.
About 80 people turned up at Broughal Middle School for the second of two vaccination clinics where students and family members could get a COVID shot.
Fountain Hill mom Julie Stout had her three boys vaccinated at Broughal to prepare for their return to the classroom.
“I just felt that if they are vaccinated maybe they can help boost other children to say ‘hey I got vaccinated. I think maybe you should,” Stout said.
The vaccination turnout was better than expected, Dr. Kim Brannan, supervisor of BASD health services, said.
“What I'm hearing is you know that at least they don't have to go to their doctor's office, they can just come in here, get their shot and go home,” Brannan said.
The clinics used the Pfizer vaccine. Those who received a dose will return for their second shot in 28 days. The Bethlehem Health Bureau helped with the school clinics.
Bethlehem Health Director Kristin Wenrich says anyone looking to get a COVID vaccine can do so at the bureau.
