Customers wait in line at Mary Ann Donut Kitchen on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — While we typically enjoy the yearly fastnachts from Good Will Fire Company No. 1 of Trexlertown, we'll have to look for an alternative way to satisfy our craving this year.

That’s because of a shortage of volunteers, not to mention the skyrocketing prices of ingredients —particularly eggs. And so the fire company canceled its fastnacht sale for a third straight year.

It means if you're heading out the door a little early on Tuesday to find some donut deals, you’re likely to head to some familiar spots.

Here’s where fastnachts are likely to be flying off the shelves:

Mary Ann Donut Kitchen

“Will be making for the next 24 hours,” a Facebook post from Mary Ann Donut Kitchen said Monday morning, accompanied by a drool-worthy photo of their famous fastnachts.

Lots of people pre-order at Mary Ann’s, but you can walk in and find them at 1601 Liberty Street in Allentown. Just be prepared for long lines.

Egypt Star Bakery

Egypt Star Bakery has been in business more than 80 years, providing delicious baked goods and fresh breads to the Lehigh Valley.

The family owned and operated bakery is always bustling on Fat Tuesday, but you’ve got options. You can drop into their 608 North Front Street location in Allentown or their Whitehall location at 2225 MacArthur Road. They’re also at 415 Chestnut Street in Emmaus and 45 North Front Street in Coplay.

The Bakery Nook

Speaking of Coplay, the Bakery Nook at 2355 Old Post Road put a lid on preorders but will have plenty for walk-in customers on Tuesday.

Their fastnachts will be available in the following varieties: glazed, granulated sugar, cinnamon sugar, powdered and plain. $12 for a half dozen or $24 for a dozen.

Easton Baking Company

Drop into the Easton Baking Co. at 34 N 7th Street on Tuesday to find plain, glazed, powdered, sugar and cinnamon fastnachts (plus all the other things you love, including sourdough and Italian bread, rolls, stickies, cupcakes and more).

They’ll be opening at 6:30 a.m. just so you can grab them on your way into the office.

Hellertown Bakery

“We wouldn't miss Fat Tuesday for the world and will be making authentic fasnachts all day long!” a Facebook post says.

You can drop in at 612 Main Street in Hellertown and also pick up delicious breads, pastries, pies, specialty cakes and more.
