WATCH: Construction of Dorney Park’s Iron Menace coaster hits another milestone; related attractions announced

On Tuesday under a clear sky crews finished connecting the tilted loop, the first of its kind on a dive roller coaster, on Dorney Park's new Iron Menace.

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Recent snowy weather hasn’t slowed construction of Dorney Park’s new Iron Menace roller coaster.

And now the park has announced additional components to the coaster's accompanying Steel Yard-themed area, including a new restaurant and bar, and a new gift shop that will sell Iron Menace and Dorney Park merchandise.

Also, an existing ride at the park will be transformed to incorporating a Steel Yard theme.

Dorney crews checked off another milestone on Tuesday when they finished connecting Iron Menace's tilted loop, the first of its kind on a dive coaster.

The manufacturer, Bolliger & Mabillard, classifies a dive coaster as one with either a vertical or beyond vertical drop.

The loop precedes the final inversion, a 360-degree corkscrew spin that will carry riders over the Zephyr train ride being rerouted through the Iron Menace station.

Crews worked diligently over the cold winter months to get to this point, Dorney Park’s Communications and Public Relations Manager Ryan Eldredge said in a release.

“2024 promises to be a transformative year for Dorney Park," Eldredge said. "As we move closer to Opening Day, we’ll continue to share updates and details."

The milestone comes days after the park announced its “Winter Chill Out,” scheduled for March 16, which will include a tour of the Iron Menace construction site, photo opportunities and more, with proceeds benefiting Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.

Participants also might sneak a peek at the other additional projects in the park’s new ‘Steel Yard’ themed area, including:

  • The Iron Mill Grill & Bar:  The new restaurant and bar will offer a menu featuring chicken sandwiches, pierogies, flatbreads, pulled pork sandwiches, and more. Additionally, the bar will serve a selection of craft beers for guests ages 21 and over.
  • Steel Yard Gifts: Adjacent to the Possessed roller coaster, the new shop will sell a wide range of Iron Menace and Dorney Park merchandise.
  • MT Buckets:  The Cedar Creek Flyers ride will be transformed into MT Buckets, incorporating a Steel Yard theme, while still offering the experience of spinning high in the sky.

Dorney Park's Opening Day will take place on May 10, 2024.
