Skaters take to the ice during the last day of skating at SteelStacks for the 2023-24 Winter season.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — ArtsQuest's Ice Rink at SteelStacks will hold two free special events to mark the beginning of the 2024 holiday season at the rink's third year.

ArtsQuest announced that it will pair with Steel Ice Center for the event, which will feature live hockey and a festive figure skating show.

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms Youth U8 Development Program will take to the outdoor ice for two fast-paced, 30-minute games from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the rink, in front of Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks.

“Seeing kids have fun and create memories should be at the core of any sport, and what could be more fun than celebrating the holiday season doing what they love on the ice beneath the SteelStacks. It is going to be something special, a lifelong memory.”
Steel Ice Center owner Keith Krem

Festivities will continue from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, when Penguin Figure Skating Club presents a holiday-themed skating show.

The performance will feature skaters of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced members, expressing the spirit of the holiday season.

Both events will be free to attend. Concessions, which include hot beverages, chicken tenders, burger, hot dogs, fries and more, will be available from the Mack Truck Stop starting at 11 a.m.

“We are thrilled to partner with our neighbors at ArtsQuest to provide a chance to showcase the passion and talent of Penguin Figure Skating Club and the Phantoms Youth U8 program in a unique outdoor setting,” Steel Ice Center owner Keith Krem said.

“Seeing kids have fun and create memories should be at the core of any sport, and what could be more fun than celebrating the holiday season doing what they love on the ice beneath the SteelStacks.

"It is going to be something special, a lifelong memory.”

'So vital for our community'

ArtsQuest's Ice Rink at SteelStacks, which in its second season drew more than 10,000 patrons, will open for a third year with a reduced cost.

It is scheduled to open Friday, Nov. 22, and run through Jan. 5, and will operate during Christkindlmarkt on the SteelStacks campus Nov. 22-Dec. 22.

The cost to skate will be $5 cheaper than last year: $18-$21 for ages 14 and older, and $15-$18 for 13 and younger. The cost for ArtsQuest members and for groups of 15 or more is $14-17.

“Bringing Steel Ice programs such as youth hockey and figure skating to The Ice Rink at SteelStacks is a perfect blend, providing kids and families throughout the Lehigh Valley with an opportunity to have fun, create memories and further interest in the sport."
ArtsQuest Chief Operating Officer Curt Mosel

Ticket prices include the cost of skates and a $1 fee. Patrons can bring their own skates, but the ticket price is the same.

Tickets are on sale on the SteelStacks website.

On non-holiday Mondays, ages 12 and younger skate for half price — $7.50 at the 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. skating sessions.

The rink will again hold fun theme nights — Taylor Swift night returns Dec. 10 — and this year there will be added options for birthday parties and private events, according to an ArtsQuest news release.

“Partnering on events like these is so vital for our community," ArtsQuest Chief Operating Officer Curt Mosel said.
