EMMAUS, Pa. - The longest day of the year, known as the summer solstice, is fast approaching.
To mark the occasion, a festival will be held on Saturday in Emmaus to celebrate and showcase local businesses.
Festival organizer Danyel Harrison says the theme of the solstice event is gratefulness.
“We just want to get people out and get them involved in the community to celebrate and to be grateful for everything that has happened so far this year,” said Harrison.
Harrison owns Handmade Mystic Healing Crystals and Jewelry, which recently celebrated its first anniversary in Emmaus.
“Our community here in the Emmaus Triangle just opened up a candy store, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop,” Harrison said. “A lot of the businesses here in our area are within two years old. The energy is very good here and the community supports small businesses.”
The event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Triangle Park. Harrison said there will be 10 vendors on site.
“We’re going to have energy healing, Italian ice, something for everyone,” said Harrison. “[It’s just] something to celebrate local businesses and get the community together.”
Activities also include henna art, face painting and free tarot readings.
Allentown-based Nowhere Coffee Co., which plans to open in Emmaus next month, will serve coffee and kombucha.
The festival is being held ahead of the summer solstice, which occurs June 21.
