PHOTOS: High school rifle teams in the Lehigh Valley

Away from the fields and courts used by thousands of student-athletes, some Lehigh Valley schools for decades have maintained rifle teams. The Northeast Pennsylvania Rifle League is made up of 11 teams including the Lehigh Valley's Emmaus, Freedom, Liberty, Salisbury and Southern Lehigh high schools.

Southern Lehigh senior Kayla Trinkle is one of the Northeast Pennsylvania Rifle League's most accomplished shooters. Trinkle has recorded four perfect scores (100-10x) so far this season and has been involved in the sport since seventh grade when she joined the junior program at Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club in New Tripoli. (Corky Blake)

Liberty High School senior Sarah Stein is a three-sport athlete who plays field hockey in the fall and lacrosse in the spring all while playing clarinet in the Grenadier Band. Somehow, Stein has found the time over the past four seasons to emerge as Liberty's No. 1 shooter, including her first perfect target earlier this season.
