But to make sure worshipers are safe, some churches will host this weekend's celebrations outdoors.
In many ways, Easter is a celebration of rebirth.
The Rev. Derrick Bean, the pastor of the Lehigh Valley Church of Christ in Bethlehem, says his congregation plans to gather in nature.
“On our church grounds we have a gazebo, and what we are doing for Easter is we are having services outside,” Bean says.
The idea, he says, is to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.
And, Bean’s church isn’t alone.
Local Moravian churches will be gathering for a shared celebration to be held in the historic Old Moravian Cemetery, also known as God’s Acre at Main and New streets in Bethlehem.
“We still feel the risk level is high enough in the community for us not to expose members and friends to the risk of infection,” says the Rev. Hopeton Clennon, senior pastor of Bethlehem’s Central Moravian Church
While not all churches can provide an outdoor event, many will make live-streamed video of Easter celebrations available online.
